Why a garage makes a great cinema room
A garage has a lot going for it as a media room. It's usually a simple rectangle, which suits a screen at one end and seating at the other. It sits on the ground floor, often on the edge of the house, so sound travels less to bedrooms. And because the old door opening is being rebuilt anyway, you get to decide exactly how much daylight comes in, or keep it out altogether.
Compared with squeezing a big TV into the lounge, a separate cinema room means the family can watch a film while someone else has the main room. It also keeps the speakers, consoles and cables out of your living space.
Cinema rooms also tend to be used more than people expect. Once the room is there, it becomes the place for Friday film nights, the big match with friends, the children's sleepovers and long gaming sessions that would otherwise take over the lounge. Planning it as a flexible entertainment room, not just a cinema, means it earns its keep all week.
